Jordanelle Reservoir offers triathletes one of the premier racing locations in Utah.  The race kicks off at the Rock Cliff area boat ramp which has been recently paved and guarantees one of the fastest transitions from swim to bike.  The bike route takes athletes through Francis and Woodland and is a fast course with a few false flats and a great down-hill stretch.  The run route is mostly flat with the vast majority located in the beautiful Rock Cliff camping area providing a great opportunity for spectators to view racers and congregate at  the finish line to cheer on the athletes.  US Trisports is excited to offer athletes a chance to race at this great venue twice each year.

Swim (750 Meters Sprint / 1500 Meters Olympic)

The swim course will take place directly off of the boat ramp. Each course consists of a triangular, clockwise loop around two anchored marker buoys measuring approximately 750 meters. Racers will begin the swim portion in waves, determined by age group and distance.  Waves will begin approximately 5 to 10 minutes apart, depending on number of racers.  Sprint distance racers will swim the loop once while Intermediate distance racers will swim it twice.  Once a racer completes the swim portion of the race, they will run though a marked trail to the transition area, where they will prepare for the bike portion of the race.

Bike Course (20K Sprint)

Athletes will exit out of the Rock Cliff area and travel along State Route 32 for approximately 3 miles. They will turn right onto Lower River Road south of Francis and continue until reaching the stop sign at the end of Lower River Road (The intersection with State Route 35). Athletes will make a left-hand turn going North onto State Route 35 toward Francis.  They will follow that road as it curves West and will travel through Francis on 2300 S, continuing down the hill and returning to the transition area. All major intersections along the course will be manned by law enforcement to give cyclists the right-of-way.

Bike Course (40K Olympic)

Athletes will exit out of the Rock Cliff area and travel along State Route 32 for approximately 3 miles. They will turn right onto Lower River Road south of Francis and continue until reaching the stop sign at the end of Lower River Road (The intersection with State Route 35). Athletes will make a right-hand turn onto State Route 35, traveling through Woodland to the turn-around which will be clearly marked.  After traveling back through Woodland, athletes will make a right-hand turn on to State Route 35 and travel north. They will follow that road as it curves West and will travel through Francis on 2300 S, continuing down the hill and returning to the transition area. All major intersections along the course will be manned by law enforcement to give cyclists the right-of-way.

Run (5K Sprint / 10K Olympic)

The run course will begin at the transition area.  Racers will run East out to State Route 32 and turn West.  The athletes will continue West until turning into the Rock Cliff campground area.  Sprint distance athletes will race one loop of the park as outlined below.  Olympic distance racers will continue past the transition area and link back up with the road leading out of the park to complete two full loops.

US Trisports races are all sanctioned through USA Triathlon and a USAT Certified Referee will be onsite for every US Trisports race to ensure that all USAT rules and regulations are followed.  Be sure to familiarize yourself with all the rules before racing.  Click on the USAT logo to the left to see the most commonly violated rules.

All members of relay teams must be present at packet pickup according to USAT rules.  We will not be able to make exceptions. In order to ensure compliance with USAT rules and regulations, you may not pick up a packet or timing chip for another person.

Body Marking and Timing Chip Pickup:

Between 6:00am and 8:00am you will need to come to the main pavilion at Rock Cliff to have your legs and arms marked with your race number, race distance and age.  You will also be able to pick up your timing chip.  Please remember your race number so that the timing chip provider can issue you the correct timing chip.

WETSUITS:

Wetsuits are required for this race. You can rent wetsuits at Wasatch Running Center. They are $30 for the weekend (Thursday through Monday is considered the weekend).  They rent Zoot Fuzion suits both full sleeve and short sleeve.  You can also make arrangements for a suit at PowerTri at packet pickup.

PARKING: (this is in red because it is important!)

There is no parking at the Rock Cliff Recreation area.  The park simply does not have adequate parking for the large number of athletes and spectators participating in this event.  You will need to proceed to the Town of Francis and park in the two lots that we have designated.  Athletes will need to park and ride their bikes down into the Rock Cliff Recreation area.  It will be important to pack your wetsuit, and gear into a backpack that you can take down with you.  Spectators will be able to enter the park by using the buses that will stop at the two parking sites.  Spectators will use the buses to come and go from the race.  Athletes will need to ride back up to Francis after the race.  You can have your friends and family take back any gear that you want.  However, no bikes are allowed on the buses.

Directions:

Take I-80 East. Take exit 146 to merge onto 189/40 toward Heber / Vernal. Stay on 40 for approximately 13 miles. Turn left at State Route 32. Continue on SR-32. Overflow Parking:

The overflow parking is at the Francis Town Park. 2317 Spring Hollow Rd. (Link to Map)

Stay on Highway 32 until reaching the town of Francis. Take a right at Spring Hollow Rd. Look for the Francis Town Park sign / arch. Turn left into the park and proceed back on the dirt road. Parking is in the grass field, west of the rodeo arena bleachers. Please park and then walk to the small white Town of Francis trailer which will serve as the bus stop.

Shuttle Schedule and Rules:

The buses will run starting at 6am. The last bus will leave the parking areas at 9am. They will not restart until 12:30pm and will leave from the Rock Cliff campground area, making a continuous loop until 2pm. The bus company has informed us that no strollers will be allowed on the buses.  Bikes are not allowed on the buses.  Your family can take gear down to you, but we strongly recommend just putting it all in a backpack and biking down with it.  It will save you time and will guarantee that your equipment arrives before race start.

Please direct friends and family to stay to the far LEFT side of the road closest to the camping area.  That way they will not interfere with any potential official traffic coming in or out of the park. They will also not interfere with bikers who may be coming out in case of late arrivals.

Spectator Park Entrance Fee:: Jordanelle State Park charges a $2 entrance fee per person into the park. (Children 6 and under are free) The fee for athletes is paid as part of your registration fee. Spectators can pay the $2 fee to the bus driver.
