SWIM COURSE(750 Meters Sprint / 1500 Meters Olympic). The open-water swim course has been a huge success in the past few years. Our athletes loved the point-to-point swim and the course will remain the same this year.
Water temperatures are expected to be approximately 77 degrees.
Q. Do I need a wetsuit for an open-water swim?
A. Due to the August date of this race, wetsuits may or may not be legal. We will announce that the week of August 5th.
BIKE COURSE
The bike course begins as athletes exit in the SW corner of the transition area onto the cobblestone pathway, heading towards Lake Ave. Athletes will be required to run alongside their bikes on the pathway until they reach the mounting zone on Lake Ave. Riders will continue along Lake Ave as the road follows the perimeter of the lake, with the road eventually turning and heading West towards Mountain View Corridor. As athletes head West, they will cross train tracks at Grandville Ave. Athletes MUST stop at this intersection if the train is coming. There will be an official directing athletes. (The train departs from the nearest trax station approximately every 20 minutes and takes less than 5 seconds to clear the intersection). Any athlete that crosses through the intersection after being directed to stop, will be disqualified from the race. Traffic officers will be assisting at this intersection.
After crossing the train tracks, athletes will continue heading West through Mountain View Corridor and eventually making a left turn at Prosperity Road. Athletes will head South on Prosperity Road and turn right on 11800 nS. Athletes will follow 11800 S until it reacheBaccus Highway and then take a left. At the Visitor entrance to Rio Tinto mine, Sprint athletes will make a U turn and head back to 11800 S. Follow 11800 south and take a left on Mustang Trail Way/Kitty Hawk Rd. Sprint athletes will then take a right on Lake Ave and head back to transition. Olympic Athletes will continue past the mine entry and down Herriman Hwy, take a left on 13400 S and do an out and back in the neighborhood, then return the same way as the Sprint Athletes.
RUN COURSE (5K Sprint / 10K Olympic)
The run course will begin at the transition area and follow the paved trails around Oquirrh Lake. The 3.1 mile loop will be completed once by Sprint-distance racers and twice by Olympic-distance athletes. The run course is flat and smooth and should make for a fast race to the finish. With good sight lines, racers will be able to see the competition and challenge each other to the finish.

All athletes should be ready to go at 7:15 am. The Olympic and Sprint race start at 7:15.
Athletes will line up for the swim based on their estimated finish time. Elite racers will go first (there isn't an official Elite wave). Physically Challenged athletes will go next. Then athletes will enter the water, fastest swimmers first until all athletes are in the water. Each racer will have an individual start time. So be ready! We get all the athletes in the water pretty quickly.
Warm up? You are welcome to get in the water prior to the start to warm up.
The Sprint race starts at a fishing dock. Racers will hold on to the dock until they are told to start. Again, this goes pretty fast so be ready.
The Olympic swim starts at East Lake Beach and is a beach start.
